What is Rapizyme®?

Rapizyme® is a specially formulated cleaner with proteolytic enzymes, ideal for endoscopes and other delicate instruments. It is packed as a liquid concentrate.

What does it do?

Rapizyme® breaks down protein residues, removes stuck tissue, dried blood and other organic matter from endoscopes. It may also be used on instruments, glassware and other hard surfaces.

How do I use Rapizyme®?

Dissolve concentrate (2ml–5ml per litre) in warm water and let articles soak in the solution. The working temperature is 38°C (can use <65°C). Stir thoroughly. Immerse articles and allow to soak for at least 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly before allowing to dry. For very heavily soiled items 10ml in 1 litre of water can be used.

How strong a solution and how long do I leave it?

This depends on the particular application and level of soiling. Suggested dilutions are indicated below:

  • Ultrasonic cleaning: 2ml–5ml Rapizyme® per litre of water – soak time of 5 minutes. Repeat as necessary.
  • Endoscope washers: 2ml–5ml Rapizyme® per litre of water – use in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Manual cleaning: 2ml–5ml Rapizyme® per litre of water – soak time of 5 minutes. Repeat as necessary.

Can I keep a made-up solution?

An unused solution of Rapizyme® will be active for a day. If the solution is used to clean medical devices, then it is classified as a single use item. For other uses discard at the end of the day however if you are particularly busy then you should change the solution twice a day.

Do I need to rinse?

Yes. Rinsing is an essential part of the cleaning process. Once dirt has been released from surfaces being cleaned it must be flushed away to avoid redeposition.

How long can I leave items soaking?

Rapizyme® is suitable for prolonged immersion of instruments and glassware.

Can I use cold water?

Rapizyme® is more efficient in warm water. The working temperature is 38°C (can use <65°C).

Can I use Rapizyme® safely in an ultrasonic cleaning machine?

Rapizyme® is especially suitable for use with ultrasonics as surface tension holding matter to surfaces is lowered by Rapizyme®.

Can Rapizyme® be used in automatic washers?

Rapizyme® should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction manual at low concentrations. The Rapizyme® container can be connected directly to the automatic dispensing unit.

Is Rapizyme® a disinfectant?

No. Disinfectants kill organisms but may not remove them. Rapizyme® removes residues, which may be contaminated, from hard surfaces. If fibre-optic devices or endoscopes are to be chemically disinfected after cleaning in Rapizyme®, rinse, rough-dry, then immerse in the disinfectant following manufacturer’s directions.

What about autoclaves?

Autoclaves do not remove dirt. Rapizyme®, with its complete rinsibility does, thus rendering instruments uncontaminated and ready for the autoclave.

Does Rapizyme® have a smell?

No. Rapizyme® has no perfume added to interfere with the job of cleaning.

What makes Rapizyme® so efficient?

Rapizyme® achieves its efficacy from its carefully blended proteolytic enzymes and special surface-active ingredients.

Will Rapizyme® remove all oils?

Rapizyme® removes organic fats and oils as well as blood and tissue residues. Some mineral oils are difficult to remove and may be cleaned by using an alcohol rinse after cleaning with Rapizyme®.

How long can Rapizyme® be stored?

Rapizyme® concentrates have a long shelf life and can be kept for up to 3 years.
